Why did you write Heartstrings at 35,000 feet?

The response I got when I told one of the stories at several dinner parties was "Why don't you write this down?" After I wrote one story, I began looking for more opportunities to listen to passengers. It's amazing how people open up when you show an interest in them.

How long did it take to write Heartstrings at 35,000 feet?

I've written this book over the course of a year or so.

Do you plan to write another book?

I have now finished Heartstrings & Pink Ribbons. Every time I fly...and have the time...I sit and talk with passengers. Everyone has a story!

Are all these stories true?

Yes, they are. Although not every story happened to me, most of them did. The others were told to me by fellow flight attendants and they've allowed me to share them with my readers.

Are you still working as a flight attendant?

Absolutely. I started this profession in my mid fifties so I haven't been at it all that long. It is so much fun! There are times, however, that I am reminded that I'm not as young as I used to be.

Are you ever afraid to fly?

Funny you ask that. I used to be fearful of flying...long before 9-11. I just didn't like be cooped up inside the plane. I overcame that fear. It just isn't rational! We are much safer, actually, inside the plane then we are in our cars driving around every day. The view from the plane is so amazing: the clouds, the changing landscape, the sunsets and sunrises, the lights of the cities...what a privilege it is to have this job.
